Most people using Orbit are teenagers, so we keep this short and collect as little as we can. We don't show ads, we don't sell data, and we don't share it with anyone except as described here.
Who can use Orbit
You must be 13 or older to create a student account. We check this with your date of birth when you sign up.
What we store
- Account: your email address, your name (or nickname) and, for students, your date of birth (only to check the age limit).
- Optional profile details: avatar (an emoji, a built avatar, or your own photo), school (and its Pearson centre number, if your school is on Pearson's awards list) and year group — only if you add them.
- Study data: your subjects, exam dates, study times, daily routine (wake-up, bedtime and school times, if you add them), topic ratings, mock marks, school test results and estimated grades, daily plans, focus sessions (including how often you left the timer tab, never which websites), XP, streak, badges you have earned and calendar events (such as tuition classes).
- Learning data: which lessons you have read or finished, your best practice scores, which practice questions you got right or wrong, how many practice questions you answered today, and the XP you earned (a daily record, so XP cannot be added twice).
- Plans: Orbit has a free plan. If you ask to be told when Orbit Plus opens, we store your account and the plan you picked. We do not take payments or store card details.
- Parent and tutor accounts: a parent or tutor account stores their email address and name, and, for tutors, a confirmation that they are 18 or over. Their links to students are stored while the link exists.
- Parent links: if you link a parent, the link and the parent's name.
- Settings on your device: your theme, text size and other preferences are kept in your browser and also saved to your account so they follow you between devices.
We don't ask for your address or phone number, and there is no messaging between users. A photo is optional: if you add one, Orbit shrinks it to a small square picture and keeps it on your own record. Only you and a parent or tutor you have linked can see it. It never appears to other students or in study groups (they see an initial or an avatar instead). You can remove it at any time in Profile → Change avatar, and deleting your account deletes it.
Who can see it
- You.
- A parent you approve can see your study summary, plan, topic ratings, focus time (including whether you left the timer tab), calendar and exams. They cannot change anything, and they cannot see your date of birth, school or email. You can remove a parent at any time.
- A tutor you approve (you link them with a code, like a parent) sees only what you switch on: topic confidence and mock marks, school test results, and/or today's plan, plus your name, subjects, exam dates, rank and daily routine. They can suggest topics, which only join your plan if you accept. They cannot change anything or message you, and you can change what they see or remove them at any time. Orbit does not check who tutors are, so only link people you know.
- Share links: you can make a read-only link to a snapshot of the progress you tick (subject confidence counts, school test results, upcoming exams). Anyone who has the link can open it, with no account, until it expires (7 to 30 days) or you stop sharing. It does not update, is not indexed by search engines, and is deleted with your account.
- AI suggestions for written answers (optional). After a Mission Test you can ask an AI to suggest marks for a written answer. Only if you tick the box (after which your written answers are marked by the AI automatically), the question, its mark scheme and your answer text are sent through Orbit's marking helper to Anthropic's Claude AI, together with Orbit's examiner guide. Your name, email and account details are not sent, and Orbit does not store what you send. Anthropic processes it under its commercial API terms. Please keep personal details out of your answers. The AI only suggests: you choose the final mark. The same goes for the optional "Check my working" button: your working, the question and its worked solution are sent the same way, you get written feedback only, and no marks are given or changed.
- Members of a study group you join (2 to 6 students you know, joined with a code) see your first name, avatar, whether you are focusing right now and the XP you earned this week toward the group goal. They never see your subjects, marks or calendar, and there is a short text chat for the members of the group only (see below). Members also see when you join a group study session, your share of the weekly team quest, and automatic milestone cheers (a streak, a new rank or an finished subjects) that never include marks, scores or subjects. A linked parent can see which groups you are in and who is in them. If you report someone, only Orbit's safeguarding lead can read the report; reports are deleted after 12 months. Leaving a group or deleting your account removes you from it. Contact: sathilaporage@gmail.com.
- Nobody else — other students can never see your data.
Where it's stored
Orbit runs on Google Firebase (sign-in, database and hosting). Google processes this data on our behalf to run the service, and may do so in countries outside your own. Firebase sign-in uses cookies and local storage to keep you signed in. Orbit also keeps a copy of the pages and study data you have opened on your device so it works offline; signing out clears it. We don't use advertising cookies or analytics trackers.
Videos and Google sign-in
- Ask Orbit (voice assistant, optional). The 🎙️ button opens a voice assistant run by ElevenLabs, a company outside Orbit. Nothing is sent until you agree to a notice and press Start; then your browser asks to use your microphone and your voice is streamed to ElevenLabs so the assistant can answer. Orbit does not record or store the conversation, but ElevenLabs may keep it under its own privacy policy. Pressing End, closing the panel or leaving the page stops it. Please do not say private details. It can make mistakes.
- Your own AI (optional). In Profile you can paste an API key from Google, Anthropic or OpenAI to mark your written answers with your own AI account. The key is kept only in your browser on that device: it is never sent to Orbit or stored in your account. When it is set, the question, its mark scheme and your answer are sent straight from your browser to that company under their terms. Orbit never asks for your AI account username or password. Remove the key in Profile at any time.
- Lesson videos come from YouTube, shown with YouTube's privacy-enhanced player (youtube-nocookie.com). When a video appears on a lesson page, your device contacts YouTube, which can see your IP address. YouTube may set cookies once you press play, under Google's own privacy policy. Each video has an “Open on YouTube” link and credits its creator.
- Sign in with Google is optional. If you use it, Google tells us your email address and name; we never see your Google password.
Your rights and deleting your data
- See or take a copy: Profile → Download my data gives you everything Orbit holds about you.
- Correct it: change your details in Profile at any time.
- Delete it: Profile → Delete account permanently deletes your account and all your study data straight away. A parent or tutor account can be deleted the same way, which also removes its links.
- Keeping data: we keep your data only while your account exists. If you ask us to, or delete your account, it goes.

Changes
If we change how we use data, we'll update this page and the date at the top.
